BANGKOK – Royal Caribbean International‘s cruise ship Ovation of the Seas, which is Asia’s largest, made her maiden call at Laem Chabang recently. She arrived on a 5-night cruise from Singapore carrying over 4,000 guests, which is the highest number of guests ever on a ship call at Laem Chabang.

To celebrate the maiden call, a traditional plaque and key ceremony was held between Ovation of the Seas’ Captain Flemming Nielsen and local officials such as Mr Zoroz Kajohnprasat, Director of Port Engineering Division of Port Authority of Thailand and Captain Ito Yoshikata, Vice President of NYK Auto Logistics (Thailand).

At 347m long, 168,666 gross registered tonnes, and laden with first-at sea features and technologies, Ovation of the Seas has a total capacity of 4,905 guests staying in 2,090 staterooms and hosted by over 1,500 crew.

Over 100 guests from Thailand boarded the ship in Singapore at the start of the cruise on March 29 and disembarked in Laem Chabang today, while another 200 plus more started their cruise today and will sail all the way to Singapore, as a special segmented cruise by Royal Caribbean to cater to the Thai market.

Guests on board the 18-deck Ovation of the Seas will enjoy the ‘North Star’, an observation capsule that rises 92 metres over the ocean; ‘Two70’ – a hi-tech entertainment venue; cocktails served by robots at the ‘Bionic Bar’; skydiving and surfing experiences; interior virtual balcony staterooms with real-time ocean views; luxurious Loft Suites with large living areas and private concierge service; and ‘SeaPlex’, the largest indoor activity space at sea – housing roller-skating, bumper cars and more. From this March to April, Ovation of the Seas is offering 10 cruises from Singapore ranging from 3 to 5 nights to Penang, Phuket, Bangkok (Laem Chabang), and a one-way 12-night cruise to Tianjin with calls at Ho Chi Minh City (Phu My) for an overnight, Hue/Danang (Chan May), Hong Kong and Seoul (Incheon).
