SINGAPORE – Set to open in October 2017, Andaz Singapore is pleased to announce Chikako Shimizuas its Director of Operations. In her new role, Chikako will be overseeing the hotel’s daily operations and managing the teams from concierge, front office, food and beverage, engineering, security and housekeeping.
A Japanese national from Osaka, Chikako, affectionately known to her teammates as “Chika“, brings with her over 23 years of industry experience at different Hyatt-branded hotels worldwide. A Hyatt veteran, she has held various positions in locations such as Grand Hyatt Macau, Park Hyatt Sydney, Grand Hyatt Melbourne, Grand Hyatt Shanghai, Hyatt Regency Osaka, and Grand Hyatt Bali. Prior to her appointment, Chika most recently served as Executive Assistant Manager, Rooms at Grand Hyatt Singapore.
Chikako started her career in hospitality as a cafe waitress at Hyatt Regency Osaka before transferring to Grand Hyatt Bali, where she worked as a Japanese-speaking Guest Services Officer. She subsequently globe-trotted with various positions from Duty Manager to Corporate Sales Manager, before advancing on to senior roles in hotel operations.
A passionate and driven individual, Chikako is excited to lead her team towards the opening of the first Andaz in Southeast Asia. “I am excited to continue my journey with Hyatt and introduce the Andaz brand to the market. Being an innovative and inspiring brand, we are a hotel that does hospitality differently. From how we feature locally-inspired design elements to inspiring our guests with fresh perspectives on hospitality, we are excited to show off this exciting property to the world.” When she is not working, you will find her traveling to exotic destinations; her current favourite location is New Caldeonia, where she enjoys basking in the sunshine and snorkelling in turquoise waters. While in Singapore, her favourite pastimes include hunting for shoes, seeking out antique furniture and identifying the best bowl of laksa – her favourite Singaporean dish.
Andaz Singapore will bring stimulating new experiences to this internationally acclaimed city, immersing guests in the eclectic districts of Kampong Glam and Bugis. The premium downtown property will offer 342 guestrooms, residential-style event venues with floor-to-ceiling windows and loft kitchens, the only rooftop bar in the downtown area with 360-degree views and a street-dining-in-the-sky food and beverage concept at Alley on 25.
