Air Tahiti Nui first steps towards OneWorld

French Polynesia flagship carrier Air Tahiti Nui just signed a code-share agreement with Qantas and American Airlines, the first steps toward a closer cooperation with world alliance OneWorld…

PARIS- Etienne Howan, Air Tahiti Nui CEO just announced to have signed a new code share agreement with US carrier American Airlines while enlarging at the same time its existing cooperation with Qantas. The code share with American Airlines would apply for the flights of the carrier to Los Angeles and will provide to Air Tahiti Nui the possibility to access through its partnership to 15 cities located in the USA (Dallas, Chicago, New York, Newark, Boston, Miami, Washington, San Francisco, Salt Lake City, Las Vegas, Reno, Denver, Austin, Houston, Phoenix et Tucson).

According to Etienne Howan, “Sales strength of American Airlines will help providing additional visibility to Tahiti and its Islands as well as to our airline in the US market. We expect that it will generate additional flux of American visitors to our destination,” he explains. The agreement includes redeeming and earning miles in a reciprocal way on both airlines’ Frequent Flyer Programs. The agreement is still to be now agreed by US authorities.

With Australian national carrier Qantas, Air Tahiti Nui is extending a code share cooperation which was signed back to 2000. The extended agreement will help Air Tahiti Nui to put its code on two new destinations in Australia, Brisbane and Melbourne. The carrier already flies to Sydney with a possible connection to Auckland, New Zealand. Air Tahiti Nui has also another code share with another member of OneWorld, Japanese carrier Japan Airlines for connections into Asia. For France and Europe, Air Tahiti Nui works however in partnership with Air France as well as French national railways SNCF for the transport of passengers from French provinces to Charles de Gaulle Airport the TGV high speed train.
