As the new Boeing 777-200LR Worldliner makes its World Record Flight from Hong Kong to London, passengers on board will have the opportunity to use mobile cellular phones in flight, thanks to proven technology from AeroMobileTM, a partnership of ARINC Incorporated and Telenor.

“As the company leading the development of mobile phone communications for airline passengers, AeroMobile is greatly excited to be a part of the Boeing World Record Flight,” stated Graham Lake, Managing Director, ARINC Europe, Middle East, and Africa. “Our market research shows many passengers—especially business people on long international flights—carry their mobile phones, and a majority would like the option to use them.”

The approximately 23 to 24-hour flight will demonstrate the long-range capabilities of the Boeing 777-200LR in addition to new technology. Among the invited passengers are journalists from media organizations around the world, airline representatives and 777 Program partners. The AeroMobile cellular system on board will support receiving and transmission of multiple voice calls, plus unlimited SMS text messaging.

AeroMobile’s in-flight cellular technology also flew on the 777-200LR Worldliner’s “Going the Distance” World Tour earlier this year.
