Abacus International wins ‘Best New Technology’ Award

Abacus International, Asia Pacific’s leading travel facilitator, was honoured with the ‘Best New Technology’ award at the TravelWeekly China Travel and Meeting Industry Awards 2009.

Abacus International President and CEO, Robert Bailey, said winning the award was a gratifying testament to the efforts his team had put in to develop solutions relevant to travel players operating in a challenging business environment.

“It has been a really tough year for everyone in the travel business. From the end of last year, the economic downturn held the industry in its grip while several national crises occurring across the region further impeded travel demand. To keep our fingers on the pulse of the industry, we had worked closely with our local marketing offices to find out the real needs of our customers and used the insights to tailor products to suit the changing market environment.”

Abacus launched several key programmes and solutions during this period such as the timely revenue assurance programme on Abacus PowerSuite, a front-, mid- and back-office productivity tool to shield travel agencies from credit-risk exposure. In addition, Abacus also waived a year’s subscription fee for its leading fares solution, Abacus FareX. It also launched Abacus Branded Fares, marking the first time travellers in the region are able to select clearly differentiated airline seats and services to meet their varying needs.

This industry award is a significant win for Abacus as China is one of its main markets. Abacus China’s General Manager, Jack Zhai, said: “We would like to say a big ‘thank you’ to our customers, industry partners and readers of TravelWeekly China for their enthusiastic support and votes. The award has encouraged us to keep delivering innovation that aligns with dynamic market needs.”

The TravelWeekly (China) Travel and Meeting Industry Awards recognises outstanding achievements and contributions to tourism by travel companies in the Asia Pacific. This year’s Awards received almost 800,000 votes cast by TravelWeekly China readers and industry peers in all categories. The awards were presented at a gala cocktail event at the Raffles Beijing Hotel last night.
