A Treatment for All, Malaysia to welcome World Federation of Hemophilia World Congress in 2024

The announcement of this event is the first step towards restoring confidence in the nation’s ability to hold in-person events.

Putrayaja, Malaysia – Set to be one of the most prestigious international meetings dedicated to the advancement of treatments to improve the lives of people with genetic bleeding disorders, the World Federation of Hemophilia (WFH) World Congress is making its way to Malaysia in 2024 after an uneventful 2020 cancellation due to the pandemic.

According to Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB), at a time when the coronavirus pandemic has had a major impact on people with a bleeding disorder, the objective of bringing together the global bleeding disorders community has never been more important. The congress will bring the world best’s professionals in haemophilia to Malaysia for the first time to provide local healthcare professionals with valuable exposure to network, collaborate, share best practices amongst industry experts and finding for solutions to save human lives.

“Supporting a health-focused congress such as the World Federation of Hemophilia is especially crucial during the COVID-19 crisis whereby it has made life challenging for people with a bleeding disorder. Unlike many medical congresses, this Congress is unique because it is attended by patients as well as medical experts, researchers, scientists and regulators. It acts as a platform for patients with bleeding disorders to gain new information from the medical aspect and learn about latest developments that could assist them in their daily lives,” said Dato’ Sri Abdul Khani Daud, Chief Executive Officer of MyCEB.

MyCEB, joined by the Hemophilia Society of Malaysia and affiliate partner WFH will continue to create greater awareness of the bleeding disorders and create a focal point for a global network of healthcare providers that attracts all the major stakeholders in the bleeding disorders community, including the policymakers.

“In line with the World Federations of Hemophilia’s mission of Treatment for All, Malaysia presented a very compelling case on why they need the congress to be at their shore. As the owner of the congress, hosting the International Congress of the World Federation of Hemophilia in Malaysia will not only benefit the Malaysian haemophilia community but also be able to bring this congress back to Southeast Asia after a 20-year gap. For the first time in Malaysia, it will be the perfect location to provide an affordable platform to educate and empower both individuals and communities regarding bleeding disorders especially for the delegates in this region,” said Jeremias Rodriguez, Director – Congress & Meetings for World Federation of Hemophilia.

The announcement of this event is the first step towards restoring confidence in the nation’s ability to hold in-person events. WFH has a global network of patient organisations in 122 countries and has official recognition from the World Health Organisation.

Representing the local organiser, Edwin Goh, Vice President of Hemophilia Society of Malaysia said “I believe International Congress of the World Federation of Hemophilia will be the best platform for the local team specifically and for the Asia region to learn about the latest developments in bleeding disorders treatment and care in the new normal. We are sure the delegates will be as excited as us to be able to congregate once again and building networks with the blood brothers and sisters from all over the world. This will be the time that we get to unlearn and relearn from all the experts and to forge ahead for Treatment for All towards the bleeding disorder community whereby no one should be left behind”.
