1 Ticket, 1 Tree: Cathay Pacific plants 999 mangrove trees in Thailand as part of commitment to boost carbon neutrality

About 50 volunteers comprising Cathay Pacific employees and trade agent partners planted the 999 saplings —a number symbolic of luck in Thailand— at a tree-planting event.

Bangkok, Thailand – Cathay Pacific has planted 999 mangrove trees in the Klong Khone Mangrove Forest as part of its 1 Ticket, 1 Tree initiative, which was launched in Thailand in July 2021. About 50 volunteers comprising Cathay Pacific employees and trade agent partners planted the 999 saplings—a number symbolic of luck in Thailand—at a tree-planting event graced by Mr Peeniti Rattanapongtara, Chairman of the Klong Khon Mangrove Forest Center, on 11 June 2022.

The 1 Ticket, 1 Tree initiative, where Cathay Pacific committed to planting one mangrove tree for every flight ticket sold during a one-month campaign period, was launched last year in Thailand—one of Cathay Pacific’s core destinations. The 999 mangrove trees planted include those committed through ticket sales as well as Cathay Pacific’s own contribution to the initiative.

Ms Keri Lui, Cathay Pacific Country Manager for Thailand and Myanmar, said: “It is a privilege for us to be able to make such a meaningful contribution to Thailand’s mangrove restoration efforts. When it comes to saving the environment, every effort counts and we are very proud to be leading the way for a sustainable future, while giving back to the communities that we serve at the same time. We sincerely thank our customers who supported this initiative by flying with us.”

Mr Rattanapongtara said: “We are delighted to have good corporate citizens such as Cathay Pacific on board our efforts to preserve and restore our mangrove forests. These forests play an essential role in coastline protection and carbon removal, so every tree planted will offer huge benefits to the local communities and our ecosystem, both now and for many generations to come.”
