Hilton enters Laos with DoubleTree by Hilton signing

Hotel in historic Vientiane Capital underscores company’s growing APAC footprint.

VIENTIANE, Laos and MCLEAN, Va – Hilton and DoubleTree by Hilton signed a management agreement with TPD Company Limited, a subsidiary of the TK Group, to manage the 160-room DoubleTree by Hilton Vientiane, which is scheduled to open in early 2020. The announcement marks Hilton’s entry into Laos and the brand’s debut in the historic capital city of Vientiane.

“We are excited to introduce the award-winning DoubleTree by Hilton brand into the historic and charming town of Vientiane,” said Dianna Vaughan, senior vice president and global head, DoubleTree by Hilton. “As one of the first global hotel companies with a presence in the market, we look forward to welcoming both international and domestic visitors to the city with our unforgettable service and countless smiles, starting with our signature, warm DoubleTree Cookie at check-in.”

The DoubleTree by Hilton Vientiane is located on the intersection of Rue Setthathilath and Rue Manthatourath, close to That Dam, which is an iconic stupa in the heart of the city centre. This downtown area is home to beautiful colonial French architecture and a wide range of quaint restaurants and cafes. Several iconic cultural and historic attractions, such as the Presidential Palace, Sisaket Temple and Lao National Museum lie within a one-kilometre radius of the hotel, making it convenient to explore on foot. For travellers seeking an authentic experience, local markets, such as the Talat Sao Morning Market and Riverside Night Market, are also easily accessible from the hotel. The hotel is also conveniently located about five kilometres from Wattay International Airport.

“The capital city of Vientiane is a key destination in Laos, with tourist arrivals making up approximately 25 percent of total annual arrivals historically. Vientiane has become a strategic market for Hilton’s first point of entry to Laos,” said Guy Philips, senior vice president of development – Asia & Australasia, Hilton. “As one of the world’s fastest-growing hospitality companies and through our strong partnership with TPD Company Limited, we are confident that the DoubleTree by Hilton Vientiane will perform well in the market.”

As the social and economic capital of Laos, Vientiane is home to a plethora of large financial institutions, government agencies and international businesses holding offices. It is also the trading hub for various commodities due to its access to Thailand and Vietnam via the Mekong River and three link bridges. In recent years, the city has experienced rapid economic growth from foreign investment thanks to the government’s willingness to welcome foreign investors and its commitment to developing the tourism industry.

Laos is on-track to remain one of the fastest growing economies in Asia, thanks to the government’s willingness to welcome foreign investments. Most recently, there was a 70 percent increase in foreign direct investment in the lead-up to the 2016 launch of the ASEAN Economic Community.

In addition, a US$6 billion, 427-kilometer Laos-China rail link, that is under construction will connect the track in Thailand to form part of the Kunming-Singapore railway and will run through central Vientiane. This is anticipated to boost trade and tourism and spur economic growth within Vientiane. Additionally, an increase of travelers is expected at Wattaya International Airport by 2018 due to a terminal expansion project currently underway.

DoubleTree by Hilton Vientiane will participate in Hilton Honors, the award-winning guest-loyalty program for Hilton’s 14 distinct brands. Hilton Honors members who book directly through preferred Hilton channels save time and money and gain instant access to the benefits they care about most, such as an exclusive member discount, free Wi-Fi and a flexible payment slider that allows members to choose nearly any combination of Points and money to book a stay. Members can also redeem their Points for free nights, to gain access to unique events through the Hilton Honors auction platform.
