SpiceRoads launches Highlights of Hokkaido

SpiceRoads adds new itinerary in Hokkaido, Japan to its tour offerings.

BANGKOK, Thailand – SpiceRoads Cycle Tours is excited to announce a new tour in Japan, “Highlights of Hokkaido.” This new 14-day road bike tour is a once-a-year-departure, with the first and only tour for 2017 departing on June 25th.
 
Hokkaido is considered Japan’s wild frontier. The northern island is renowned for its wildlife, volcanoes, pristine lakes, vast forests, and of course Japan’s ubiquitous hot springs (onsens). This tour was designed for nature lovers who want to discover diverse landscapes and take in majestic views as they push themselves over mountain passes.

The Route
This 14-day tour is along tarmac roads in good condition and there is no technical riding. The majority of the roads are quiet with amazing views.
 
Tour Highlights
  • Cycle the highest paved mountain pass in Hokkaido – Mikuni Toge at 1139 meters
  • Cycle through Wakka Wild Flower Park with more than 300 kinds of wild flowers present
  • Overnight in Shiretoko National Park, home to Japan’s largest population of brown bears
  • Soak your muscles in natural hot springs at the end of each day’s ride
  • Replenish your energy with fresh, locally-sourced seafood

Go the Distance
This is a tour for cyclists possessing a moderate to high level of physical fitness. The route totals 792 kilometers in 11 cycling days, with 7,020 meters of total ascent, and includes several mountain passes to conquer and some long distances when on flatter terrain. There is an option on day 11 to ride an additional 48 kilometers. However, the tour is fully supported and the van is always close at hand for those that find the riding too difficult.

The tour departs with a minimum of 4 riders, and a maximum of 16 riders.
