Thailand gives a northern Thai welcome to the 23 millionth visitor to the kingdom in 2015

The “Millionth Visitor” welcoming events are part of the TAT’s “2015 Discover Thainess” campaign, which showcases Thailand’s most charming attractions: diversity of destinations, the spicy flavours of Thai food, the colour of Thai traditions, festivals and culture, and the friendliness of the Thai people.

CHIANG MAI – Thailand saw the arrival of its 23 millionth visitor who flew into the northern city of Chiang Mai from Hong Kong. This shows that Thailand is set to meet and exceed the tourist projection of 28.8 million visitors for 2015 and that international tourists are now entering the country via several of Thailand’s regional airports as well as Bangkok.

Hong Kong resident Ms. Leung Nga Man was met by representatives of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), Thai Airways International Public Co., Ltd., the Immigration Bureau, Airports of Thailand Public Co., Ltd., and True Corporation Public Co., Ltd. During the welcoming ceremony, delighted Ms. Leung was presented with a “Thailand’s Luckiest Visitor” certificate to mark the visit into the kingdom.

Ms. Leung also received a gift from Thai Airways International Public Co., Ltd. of two economy-class return tickets from Hong Kong back to Thailand, valid for one year as well as a voucher for top-end accommodation for five nights. In addition, she was presented with a mobile phone with a 3G sim-card and seven-day Internet usage from True Corporation Public Co., Ltd. for use on her trip.

Mrs. Juthaporn Rerngronasa, Deputy Governor for International Marketing (Europe, Africa, Middle East and Americas) said “That Ms. Leung, our 23 millionth visitor this year, flew into Chiang Mai shows how tourists are taking advantage of the kingdom’s regional hubs so they can explore all parts of the nation. In addition, the fact that we have already reached such a high figure before peak tourist season is testament to the popularity of Thailand among visitors who know they’ll find a huge variety of attractions and destinations to enjoy throughout the year.

The campaign has been such a success that it has now been extended to 31 December, 2015, to celebrate one of Thailand’s best ever years in terms of tourist arrivals.

Mrs. Juthaporn said, “We are delighted that even more tourists are discovering the Lanna charms of Chiang Mai. It’s particularly popular with our Chinese guests like our 23 Millionth visitor who come for the unique Northern cuisine and to enjoy the tranquility of Thailand’s mountainous North. Here you can explore the stunning countryside while experiencing some of the unique lifestyles enjoyed by Thailand’s tribal groups, trek on elephants or shop for handicrafts and enjoy local spa treatments.
