Event in Kuala Lumpur is to thank travel industry partners in Malaysia for promoting Thailand as a preferred destination among Malaysians, of whom more than 1 million have visited in 2022.

KUALA LUMPUR – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) staged the ‘Amazing Thailand, A Million Thanks to the Malaysians’ event in Kuala Lumpur to say thanks to the Malaysian travel industry for promoting Thailand as a preferred tourist destination.

Mr. Tanes Petsuwan, TAT Deputy Governor for International Marketing – Asia and South Pacific, said “Malaysia has been the number one visitor source market to Thailand so far this year accounting for over 1 million arrivals from January to mid-October. This is due to our industry partners in Malaysia – travel agents, tour and bus operators, airlines, and the media – doing such a wonderful job in promoting Thailand, and we wish to express our sincere thanks and appreciation to them.”

Between 1 January, 2022, and 7 October, 2022, almost 1.1 million Malaysian tourists visited Thailand, accounting for 60% of this total was overland travel across the Thai-Malaysian border.

With Thailand having fully reopened to international tourism on 1 October, 2022, Malaysian visitors are among those who can enjoy an extended period of stay in Thailand of 45 days (up from 30 days) effective until 31 March, 2023.

There are currently 27 international flights per day between Thai and Malaysian cities operated by Thai Airways International (THAI), AirAsia, Malaysia Airlines, Thai Smile, Firefly, and Batik Air.

The TAT’s ‘Amazing Thailand, A Million Thanks to the Malaysians’ event was presided over by Mrs. Piyapin Niyomrerks, Charge d’Affaires, Royal Thai Embassy Kuala Lumpur, who also delivered welcome remarks. This was followed by a thank you speech to Thailand’s travel industry partners in Malaysia given by Mr. Tanes.

Also attending the event was famous Malaysian celebrity duo Mr. Henley Hii and Ms. Pauline Tan.

Guests at the event were also entertained by two Thai cultural shows – a 4 regions Thai dance performance and Wai Kru Muay Thai dance ritual.
