VNAT and Hanatour discuss boosting Korean tourism to Vietnam

VNAT meets with Hanatour to enhance Korean tourism in Vietnam, focusing on expanding destinations and promoting cultural exchange.

In Ha Noi, Chairman of Vietnam National Authority of Tourism (VNAT) Mr. Nguyen Trung Khanh had a meeting with Hanatour (Korea) led by Ms. Song Misun, President of the company.

Chairman Nguyen Trung Khanh said that Korea is always the leading source market of Vietnam’s tourism industry. In the first 11 months of 2023, Vietnam welcomed 3.2 million Korean visitor arrivals (accounting for nearly 30% of total international visitor arrivals). Hanatour is the largest travel company in Korea and the number of Korean visitors to Vietnam organized by Hanatour company accounts for about 50% of the total number of visitors from this country to Vietnam each year.

“I am very pleased to welcome Hanatour to work and share ideas to promote the number of exchange visitors”, Mr. Nguyen Trung Khanh said.

Ms. Song Misun, President of Hanatour Company, said that Vietnam is Hanatour’s key market. The company wants to continue operating tours to familiar destinations of Korean tourists while expanding to other destinations in Vietnam such as Sa Pa. The company wants to support providing information about new destinations, connecting travel businesses, and supporting promotion of tourism. She informed that in 2024, the company will continue to organize the HanaTour International Travel Showand looks forward to the attending of Vietnam.

Hanatour will do its best to contribute to bringing 6 million Korean visitor arrivals to Vietnam in 2024”, Ms. Song Misun affirmed.

Appreciating Hanatour’s recent choice of Vietnam as a key market and the company’s ambitious goals, Chairman Nguyen Trung Khanh noted that Hanatour’s effort to increase the number of Korean visitors to Vietnam is a good signal to accelerating the recovery of Vietnam tourism.

Regarding the proposals of Hanatour, Mr. Nguyen Quy Phuong, Director of Tourism Marketing Division (Vietnam National Authority of Tourism) shared that Vietnam tourism pays great importance to the Northeast Asian market. The Korean market is stable to ensure development, having space to growth. He also agreed with the direction of exploiting new products, trekking and picnics towards nature. Sa Pa located in Northern mountainous region, with the facilities having been well invested, is a reasonable choice.

Mr. Nguyen Quy Phuong wished Hanatour to support the promotion of Vietnamese tourism in Korea and facilitate Vietnam tourism at the HanaTour International Travel Show.

Mr. Nguyen Dao Dung, Director of Travel Industry Management Division, said he will coordinate to provide destination information and introduce suitable companies to join Hanatour in learning and exploiting new destinations. Mr. Dinh Ngoc Duc, Director of International Affairs Division, said that he will support Hanatour in the process of working in localities and tourism businesses.

Ms. Song Misun also said that Hanatour currently has 3 branches in Ha Noi, Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City, and will soon open more in Da Lat and Nha Trang, and hopes that Vietnam will support these new branches.

At the end of the meeting, VNAT’s Chairman Nguyen Trung Khanh asked Hanatour to continue promotion Vietnam in Korea and support Vietnam in participating in the HanaTour International Travel Show. The Chairman affirmed that today’s meeting opens a new phase in cooperation between the two sides to promote two-way tourist exchange between Vietnam and Korea.
