ATEC’s 2016 Tourism Industry Award winners announced

The Len Taylor Young ATEC Award for Leadership has this year been handed to Queensland based Chelsea Sheppard from GTA who has been an active member of her local Young ATEC branch for more than 6 years.

Australia’s export tourism industry has recognised the outstanding contribution of its members across Australia in the annual Australian Tourism Export Council (ATEC) awards announced at the National Museum in Canberra.

The awards, which form part of the Meeting Place Gala Dinner event, recognise the most outstanding contribution of an individual, young achiever of the year and other outstanding industry commitment.

This year’s Captain Trevor Haworth Outstanding Contribution by an Individual to the Tourism Export Industry was won by Jeff Ellison of SeaLink.

“As the CEO and Managing Director of SeaLink, Jeff has had a long standing and committed connection to the tourism industry and has been instrumental in the amazing growth one of Australia’s most successful and well loved tourism businesses,” ATEC Chairman, Denis Pierce said.

“Jeff is personally a great supporter of ATEC and is a humble, unassuming industry thought leader, so we are pleased to be presenting him this award.”

The Len Taylor Young ATEC Award for Leadership has this year been handed to Queensland based Chelsea Sheppard from GTA who has been an active member of her local Young ATEC branch for more than 6 years.

“Chelsea has been the key driver behind YATEC activities in Southern Queensland and her willingness to be involved above and beyond her role as a committee member, made her a standout for this award.”

“As a dedicated member of ATEC, Chelsea represents the drive and commitment of so many young people in building a successful Australian tourism industry and helping to set the standards that have made our industry so strong.”

This year’s Outstanding Contribution by an Individual to ATEC award went to long serving, former South Australian Branch Chair, Paul Brown, who retired from his position with the organisation this year after 8 years of service.

“As a highly regarded export tourism operator and passionate member of both ATEC’s local branch and the National Board, Paul has been a strong advocate for the SA tourism industry and has helped focus the State Government on the value of tourism’s economic contribution.”

ATEC’s Branch of the Year was awarded to the South Queensland branch.
