Gabriel Ruis – LuxuryYachting.Travel – A Yacht is an Island

While Gabriel’s first foray into the charter business was focused around yacht sailing, he bought out his original partners and pivoted to luxury boats, power boats and and boats for events.

Gabriel Ruis has been in the yacht chartering business since 2003. Originally starting a company called Vientosur and then later founding and acting as the CEO at LuxuryYachting.travel. Gabriel’s journey (pun intended) into the travel business was a not a direct one, but grew out of his love for sailing and yachting.

His original idea was to charter sailing boats in Brazil and that grew into a much larger business that is now essentially global. Interestingly, he noted to me that he has actually sailed across the Atlantic!

Gabriel has been traveling to Southeast Asia for years, with his first trip to Bangkok in 1991! My first time waist 1998 and we reminisced a bit about how much it has changed over time, but how we both love living in such a vibrant city.

While his first foray into the charter business was focused around yacht sailing, he bought out his original partners and pivoted to luxury boats, power boats and and boats for events. The events side of the business got him very involved in the 32nd America’s Cup Race, which was held in Valencia, Spain.

Gabriel mentioned that even though the business can look very glamorous from the outside, at the end of the day, it can get stressful. At some one day events and races, if you do not execute perfectly, you have no time to recover and make things better.

With the explosive growth in the Asian travel markets, both inbound and outbound, Gabriel’s business should be poised to benefit as well.
