TTG Asia Media, organiser of Asia’s premier MICE show – Incentive Travel & Conventions, Meetings Asia (IT&CMA) has teamed up with MP Asia, a professional exhibition organiser, to organise the inaugural IT&CM China in Shanghai from 23 to 25 April next year.

The show will be held at INTEX Shanghai with the theme “China to the world and the world to China”. The venue covers an area of 6,000 m2 or space for 300 standard booths.

The partners have called it a “win-win” situation for both sides. TTG Asia will bring to the table its experience in organising IT&CMA and its international trade contacts while Meeting Planners’ offices in China will target local buyers and exhibitors.

TTG Asia Media managing director, Mr Darren Ng, said: “IT&CMA is already in its 14th year this year and doing very well. We have been wanting to enter the China market for some time but are constrained by resources.”

Mr Ng also acknowledged the value of TTG Asia and MP Asia’s partnership, commenting “As the subsidiary of an established group, MP is the perfect partner for us as they have experience in the meetings and travel industry and ground knowledge of the market. They have also a strong presence throughout China and we can leverage on their existing resources, manpower and contacts with the local authorities.”

MP Asia’s CEO, Ms Sylvia Phua, said, “Our group has been in the China market since the 1980s. Our experience and contacts in this vibrant marketplace will be valuable. As the country’s economic hub, Shanghai presents an excellent starting point for China as a MICE market.”

Mr Ng added that although Shanghai already plays host to the China International Travel Mart trade show and the World Travel Fair consumer show, there is a need for a MICE-specific event in the city. Both partners said they are committed to make the inaugural event successful and a permanent feature on the MICE event calendar.

Several elements in IT&CM China will follow that of IT&CMA, such as the hosting of buyers and press. The programme will also include a half-day educational conference followed by a two-day exhibition with pre- and onsite appointment scheduling.

The show, which has received the endorsement of the Shanghai Convention & Exhibition Industries Association, is expected to attract some 1,200 delegates.

Meanwhile TTG Asia will concurrently organise the inaugural, Corporate Travel & Technology World (CT&TW) in Shanghai from 22 to 24 April 2007. The venue has not been confirmed but it will follow a format similar to the company’s nine-year old Corporate Travel World Asia-Pacific with a heavier emphasis on corporate travel technology. This event, an equal joint venture with the Washington-based National Business Travel Association (NBTA), is aimed at corporate travel managers and end-users.
