TCEB joins hands with Sampran Model Project and MICE business alliances to direct Agricultural Development Project

The aforementioned project is part of TCEB’s 5-year development scheme centering on sustainable MICE management (year 2016-2020) formulated with key goals in the reinforcement of Thailand as the world’s leading sustainable MICE destination basing on the policies in environmental conservation and sustainable development management.

BANGKOK – Thailand Convention & Exhibition Bureau (Public Organization) or TCEB joined forces with Sampran Model Project and MICE business alliances to encourage MICE entrepreneurs to support organic agricultural products produced by communities in order to create a sense of responsibility toward the environment and the society to respond to global trends. The collaboration has the prime purpose to reinforce Thailand as MICE Sustainable Destination.

Mr. Nopparat Maythaveekulchai, TCEB President, disclosed that “Today, sustainable development has become the principle that global communities pay high attention in. Particularly, the environment and the local participation have turned to play a vital role in influencing the decision making of foreign MICE travellers when it comes to organising business events in Thailand. As a consequence, TCEB realised the importance of connecting MICE entrepreneurs with local communities in order to implement the “Sustainable MICE” model development in a concrete way and as such businesses can eventually return profits to communities and the society.”

TCEB joined hands with the Sampran Model Project, Thailand Incentive and Convention Association (TICA) and Thai Hotel Association in driving MICE entrepreneurs to join the “Sustainable Agricultural Development Project for Successful Thai MICE”by making direct purchases of organic produce from Thai farmers. Meanwhile, it is a way to deliver healthy food to clients by which will increase competitive advantages and enhance public image of MICE entrepreneurs and Thailand as a whole. Currently, the project is undergoing the determination of joint operation which was required to be substantial and practically measurable before the official launch heralds in March 2016.

The project is distinct as it is the first of Asia to gather MICE entrepreneurs together to support local economy at the community level by making purchases of organic produce directly from farmers. As well, it is a way to entice Thai farmers to turn to planting with the methods that pose fewer impacts on the environment. Additionally, private sector will have participation in taking social responsibilityby sourcing local produce from Thai farmers to use in their business, resulting in the networking of three parties, including state agency, private sector and local communities, which shall work in harmony to drive the economy. This way, mutual benefits will be generated and thus will bring sustainability on the development of business, the society and communities, right from the upstream to downstream.”

Presently, there are 9 participating MICE entrepreneurs joining the “Sustainable Agricultural Development Project for Successful Thai MICE”. These include Queen Sirikit National Convention Center, IMPACT Arena and IMPACT Exhibition and Convention Center, Bangkok International Trade & Exhibition Centre (BITEC), Plaza Athénée Bangkok – A Royal Méridien Hotel, The Sukosol Hotel Bangkok, The Twin Towers Bangkok Hotel, Dusit Thani Bangkok Hotel, Sampran Riverside Hotel and Rama Gardens Hotel Bangkok.

Participation of all sectors will be encouraged through the strategies that accentuate the development of operation plan and activities that mainly involve the use of environmental friendly resources and local participation.
