Taiwan Tourism Bureau launches new 2012 subsidy policy at EIBTM Barcelona

The Global Meetings & Events Exhibition in Barcelona, Spain closed on 1 Dec successfully. This year, Taiwan Tourism Bureau recruited a strong MICE team comprising Taiwan Convention & Exhibition Association, Taiwanlook Co., Ltd, Taipei International Convention Center, Taiwan External Trade development Council, K&A International Co., Ltd and The Landis Taipei Hotel to participate.

Returned with fruitful results, Taiwan pavilion’s number of appointments was up 40% over last year during the 3-day EIBTM 2011 exhibition. Taiwan delegation shared with buyers the latest Taiwan MICE news, including the special travel discount offer and other new subsidy policies to celebrate Taiwan’s centennial anniversary. To further encourage overseas incentive groups to Taiwan, the Tourism Bureau is offering grants and incentives such as culture performances, planning assistance and souvenirs for 2012-2013. Moreover, for the first-time incentive group over 150 pax and above, the Tourism Bureau provides a free gala dinner, and still offering complimentary gifts, welcome banner, and cultural performance, etc. for eligible visiting groups.

There are also other supports from the Bureau of Foreign Trade (BOFT) and Taipei city government. For those who apply subsidy from BOFT may obtain up to NTD 2 million (about USD 65,000) per exhibition, and NTD 2.8 million (about USD 90,000) per conference; the Department of Information and Tourism of Taipei City also raises the maximum subsidy from NTD 500,000 to 1 million (about USD 32,500) per case in 2012.

Taiwan government estimates more than NTD 90 billion output value on MICE industry in coming years, expected to accelerate the buildup of new venues and hotels around the island. Taichung International Convention Center, hosting up to 2000 standard-size booths, was in operation in October this year. Kaohsiung Exhibition & Convention Center will be completed by the end of 2013. Taiwan, not just a so-called Technology Island, is ready to embrace a brand-new MICE era.
