A record number of 30 young people from Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Korea, Japan and Malaysia will participate in this year’s ICCA Youth Forum, held in conjunction with AIME 2006. The ICCA Youth Forum is held on 4 & 5 June and AIME 2006, 14th AsiaPacific Incentives & Meetings Expo, follows on 6 & 7 June, both at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre. The Forum includes attendance at AIME 2006.
2006 marks the 6th year the ICCA Youth Forum has been held at AIME and according to Forum Convenor Elizabeth Rich, it continues to gain momentum.
“More employers recognize this unique opportunity for young employees to network and learn about the international meetings industry from a rare line-up of senior industry people,” Ms Rich said.
The programme includes a keynote address by Leigh Harry, First Vice President of ICCA and Chief Executive of the Melbourne Exhibition and Convention Centre, who will provide a Global Perspective of the Meetings Industry.
There is also a forum panel of senior industry members discussing Winning Destinations – what destinations are thriving in the business events market and why they are successful. Panel members include: Leigh Harry; Anthony Wong, Asian Overland Services Tours and Travel from Malaysia; Barrie Markey, ICMS Pty Ltd from Australia; and Connie Cheng from the Shanghai Municipal tourism Administrative Commission, China.
The ICCA Career Path Forum will include guest panelists from different sectors of the industry who will share their career experiences. Discussion topics will include what employers look for when employing staff, when providing training opportunities, the importance of accreditation and how to overcome career blockages. Panel members include: Linda Gaunt, Meetings and Events Australia and Anthony Wong.
There is also a session on Research explaining how information from research can aid in strategic marketing and planning. Participants include Gary Grimmer talking about ICCA’s DOME project, Linda Gaunt on META research and Association Professor Margaret Deery on the UNWTO project on international meetings industry research and Australia’s National Business Events Study, Stage 2.
A special Case Studies session will look at practical aspects of winning and managing meetings. Mike Williams, Melbourne Convention + Visitors Bureau will present a study on Bidding for Business Events, examining the elements involved in bidding, and evaluating and learning from the outcome – win or lose.
Sharon Goldie, Manager, MLC Business Events will present A Clients Perspective – Corporate Roadshow, covering the organisation of a corporate seminar road show around Australia that attracted over 1500 participants.
Luana Haylan, National Manager, Perth Convention Bureau will present a case study Marketing Your Destination. Perth has won two ICCA Best Marketing Awards.
Participants will also hear from ICCA’S Hot Leader for 2005, Rochelle Kempton, Director of Sales and Marketing, Cairns Convention Centre, who will speak about her career in the meetings industry and give some tips for success.
