IAEE Announces 2009 Individual Award Winners

Τhe International Association of Exhibitions and Events (IAEE) proudly announces this year’s recipients of the IAEE Individual Awards. IAEE’s awards program recognizes professionals who have made outstanding contributions to the exhibitions and events industry. The winners will be honored during Expo! Expo! IAEE’s Annual Meeting & Exhibition to be held 8-10 December 2009 in Atlanta, Ga.

Award winners are chosen after careful consideration and review by the IAEE Awards Committee and the IAEE Board of Directors. “I congratulate the recipients of this year’s individual awards as well as those who submitted nominations,” says 2009 IAEE Awards Committee Chair Julia Smith, CEM. “It is rewarding to see that the industry is filled with such dedicated members who define excellence, and elevate the presence of exhibitions and events in the general marketplace.”

Thirty-nine nominations were considered this year, from which the following seven outstanding individuals were selected for recognition:

The Pinnacle Award recognizes an individual who, over the years, has furthered IAEE’s objectives of advancing exhibitions and events management through the promotion of education, the dissemination of knowledge and the introduction or development of innovative techniques, and who has been dedicated to the perpetuation of the highest ideals, trust and professionalism in this highly specialized field. This year’s Pinnacle Award recipient is Sandy Angus, chairman of Montgomery Worldwide.

The Distinguished Service Award is presented to IAEE members who have rendered distinguished service to IAEE and the exhibitions and events industry as a whole. This year’s recipients are Lenay Gore, director of Meetings & Conventions for the American Public Transportation Association and Carl Mitchell, president of Shepard Exposition Services.

The Merit Award provides recognition for those whose ideas and/or work have benefited IAEE as an organization in some special way and is generally reserved for those who have stepped forward at the chapter/local level. This year’s recipients are Cynthia Boyle, CEM, manager of Exhibits & Vendor Relations for the Texas Library Association and Lynn Fisher, CMP, vice president & general manager for the Texas Apartment Association, Inc.

The Outstanding Achievement in Industry Leadership Award recognizes an individual who has made an extraordinary personal or professional commitment that materially contributes to the advancement of the exhibitions and events industry. Recognition will demonstrate how voluntary leadership can enhance or change the industry. This year’s recipient is John Skipper, CEO of National Conference Services.

The Outstanding Achievement in Marketing & Sales, Show Management Award recognizes outstanding achievement by show management in marketing and sales activities such as total event revenue and profit, attendance, exhibit space sales, advertising revenue and sponsorship revenue. Merit is based on achievement of defined objectives, including measurable comparable metrics. This year’s winner is The Tiny Kitchen Staff/The Metropolitan Cooking & Entertaining Show in the Less than 50,000 nsf show size category.
