Tiger Airways claims ‘Greenest Airline’

Tiger Airways has reported that it continues to lead the way by further reducing its cost of operations -with reduced fuel burn and environmental emissions due to lower levels of baggage being carried.

Tiger Airways recently introduced a new check-in fee structure (which rewards passengers with carry-on hand luggage only and who web check-in, with the lowest fares), and as a result the airline has seen a progressive increase in customers travelling lighter.

Tiger Airways Australia Managing Director, Crawford Rix says “the majority of our passengers are now electing to travel without checked luggage and are carrying hand luggage only. Less checked luggage means greater efficiencies for the airline and lower fares for our customers.

“Plus, it means Tiger Airways must be the ‘greenest’ airline in Australia. Our fleet of aircraft is already the newest in Australia and now with the majority of our customers travelling lighter, emissions are even lower with less fuel being burned. This means the costs of our operations are lower, which allows the airline to offer even lower fares.

“We’re delighted that so many of our customers are choosing to ‘travel light’. With the majority of Tiger Airways’ customers saving money by choosing to travel without checked luggage. Our fuel bills will be millions of dollars lower than they would have been if everyone checked in a bag.

“Our incentive to customers for travelling light, is rewarding both the customer with lower fares and the environment with reduced fuel burn. Incentivising environmentally responsible behaviour in this way is far more effective than any emissions trading scheme or arbitrary tax.

“’Travelling light’ means everyone wins – the customer, the airline and the environment,” he says.

Tiger Airways continues to offer various ‘value for money’ options for passengers wishing to check-in luggage or for those with carry-on luggage only who wish to check-in at the airport in person.
