THAI states progress on Rolls-Royce admittance to bribery

Thailand and THAI will have to be truly aware of the values of good governance in all areas of its operations, standing for righteousness and be transparent.

Thai Airways International Public Company Limited (THAI) stated progress in the case of Rolls-Royce having admitted to the UK Serious Fraud Office(SFO) on allegations of bribery in Thailand with regard to the sale and purchase of aircraft engines, whereby reference was made to THAI employees. Currently, the Company is gathering information with regard to the Company and its employees during 1991-2005.

Mr. Charamporn Jotikasthira, THAI President, said that progress is being made on the Rolls-Royce bribery case for the sale and purchase of aircraft engines to THAI during 1991-2005 and the Company is presently gathering information from various sources. At the end of last week, Rolls-Royce provided as much initial information as could be revealed, which is the same as that disclosed to the public. The gathering of information is a time staking matter. The two special task forces that have been established, the Fact Investigation Task Force and Engine & Maintenance Procurement Task Force, are in the process of considering additional information in order that further action may be taken.

Presently, the Company is in the process of signing an integrity pact or governance agreement to ensure that any party conducting business with THAI will not engage in bribery of any sort with THAI employees.

As a result of this case, Thailand and THAI will have to be truly aware of the values of good governance in all areas of its operations, standing for righteousness and be transparent.
