Singapore Airlines and Tourism New Zealand have signed a marketing agreement to jointly develop and promote tourism to New Zealand on Singapore Airlines’ services. The three-year deal will come into effect on 1 January 2010.
Under the terms of the memorandum of understanding Singapore Airlines and Tourism New Zealand will jointly explore and implement activities to boost tourist arrivals to New Zealand via Singapore Airlines’ services between Singapore and Auckland and Christchurch.
Each party has agreed to commit NZD2million over three years to fund joint activities and promotional work in six key Asian and European markets.
Last year, Singapore Airlines carried 470,000 passengers to and from New Zealand, which makes it the second largest long haul air carrier servicing the New Zealand market.
The arrangement will see joint tourism advertising in Singapore, China, India, the UK, Germany, and France as well as New Zealand promotion on Singapore Airlines’ KrisWorld onboard entertainment system, with an audience reach of 19 million international travellers each year.
“Tourism New Zealand is delighted with the enhanced marketing opportunities that this agreement will provide. The proposed new activity with Singapore Airlines will significantly boost our ability to reach more travellers more often with key promotion messages and holiday offers,” Tourism New Zealand Chief Executive George Hickton said.
“Singapore Airlines’ comprehensive network from key centres in Asia and Europe offers excellent connectivity to New Zealand and this new activity with Singapore Airlines will be timed to coincide with Tourism New Zealand’s major campaigns to boost bookings,” Mr George Hickton added.
Singapore Airlines also see this as an important marketing initiative as they step up their Singapore – Auckland services to double daily later this month.
“We have deep roots in New Zealand having established our presence in the country since 1976 when we first operated twice weekly B707 services to Auckland via Sydney. Today, we operate daily B777 services to Christchurch and 12 times weekly to Auckland. By the end of November, we will be operating twice daily to Auckland. We remain steadfast in our commitment to promote the varied and wonderful tourist attractions in New Zealand to the world,” said Mr Huang Cheng Eng, Singapore Airlines’ Executive Vice President, Marketing & The Regions.
“This agreement reinforces that commitment. Our presence in 65 cities in 35 countries will certainly help to drive the marketing campaigns overseas,” said Mr Huang Cheng Eng added.
