Air New Zealand procceds to a number of significant changes on its international network as the first step in developing a new portfolio of long haul routes. These changes are the beginning of a carefully thought out repositioning process to continue profitably growing Air New Zealand.
Air New Zealand will be deploying its new B777 aircraft on NZ1 and NZ2 services between London Heathrow and Auckland effective from 28th (NZ2) and 29th (NZ1) October
These services are currently operated exclusively by the Boeing 747-400. Air New Zealand’s recently announced new London-Hong-Kong-Auckland route (NZ38 and NZ39) will stay as a B747-400 operated service.
The carrier remains firmly committed to its European markets and with the introduction of the new London-Hong Kong-Auckland service from 29 October it will be offering a 78% increase in seats from London.
The B747 will be put back on to the Auckland-Los Angeles route during the December to January high season.
The suspension of the Auckland – Singapore route from 2 October
Air New Zealand has operated a daily return service between Auckland and Singapore using its Boeing 777-200ER aircraft. Nonetheless, the airline currently has less than a 30 percent capacity share in this market and has sustained significant losses recently on this route.
North Asian routes represent substantially greater growth prospects than South East Asia which is already served with international airline capacity.
Later this year Air New Zealand will start the Auckland – Shanghai services three times a week from 6 November.
Los Angeles – Christchurch route
The carrier will not be recommencing flights between Los Angeles and Christchurch from 29 October. Its intention had been to operate two weekly 777 flights for the summer season but the carrier has reviewed this in the current fuel price environment.
