Social Media education is now one of the most sought after topics by Australian tourism operators

Statistics released today from more than 30,000 tutorials downloaded from the nation’s largest e-marketing course, the Tourism e-kit, reveal Social Media to be one of the single most popular topics with operators. “Australian tourism operators are becoming more sociable as they embrace this rapidly growing online media revolution,” ATDW CEO, Liz Ward said. “Australian tourism operators are realising the value of using social media networks such as Facebook, Youtube and TripAdvisor to gain the competitive edge and Australian businesses want to understand more about this technology as a marketing tool”, she said. “Clearly social media sites cannot be ignored and tourism businesses need to understand and interact with them, they need to get with the times by becoming familiar with popular networking sites.”

With 78% of Facebook users now aged between 18 and 34, the internet is seeing a shift from social media being a young people’s tool to  rapid up-take by the middle agers. Tourism businesses need to be aware of the appropriate ways to interact on these media and use them to establish and maintain positive relationships with their customers.  The Tourism e-kit provides education around appropriate social media behaviour and strategies for operators to get involved.
