Second best job in the world – wanted

With just seven days to go before the winner of Tourism Queensland’s Best Job in the World campaign is announced, Voyages believes it has the Second Best Job in the World on Lizard Island in Queensland, Australia.

Voyages Lizard Island – named the ‘most romantic place in the world’ by Hollywood starlet and former guest Kate Hudson – is recruiting for a Resort General Manager, a role that has only been held by a few lucky people over the years. These former General Managers form part of an exclusive club of individuals who can all confidently say that they have all held the “best job in the world”.

Far from being a short-term contract for just six months, this is a real job, with real career progression – and yes, a lovely two-bedroom house overlooking the Great Barrier Reef.

Voyages Lizard Island is Australia’s premier island resort, acclaimed for its pristine wilderness, sublime luxury and innovative cuisine, not to mention world-class scuba diving, big game fishing and 24 deserted powdery-white beaches.

The General Manager’s role on Lizard Island involves getting to know every guest on a first-name basis – in particular celebrity guests who regularly choose Lizard Island for their holiday retreat; and enthralling guests about the abundant marine life including whales spotted off the Osprey Island headland, easily seen by the naked eye.

Other ‘tasks’ include admiring the azure blue tranquil waters of the Great Barrier Reef from the expansive balcony on a private two-bedroom house while sipping icy cool Chardonnay and sampling bite size tasty morsels from the Executive Chef who just made some new canapes that afternoon for trial.

Guy Heywood, Voyages Group General Manager Voyages Signature Properties said: “As far as offices go, this isn’t bad. And if the next week’s winner of Tourism Queensland’s campaign claims to have the Best Job, then this must surely come a close second.”

“The weather here on Lizard Island is usually around 30 degrees, a light breeze from the south east keeps the island cool, nice for an early morning walk to blue lagoon, before a refreshing dip in the ocean.”

Keen snorkellers and divers should apply – Lizard Island has some of the best diving in the world, with a variety of outstanding dive sites including the world-famous Cod Hole. Snorkellers can be rewarded with little effort by snorkeling straight off the beach over 100-year-old clams.
