Prime Minister and Finance Minister Srettha Thavisin convened a meeting with various stakeholders to discuss the extension of operating hours for nighttime entertainment venues, beginning December 15. The discussion involved key provinces, including Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Chonburi (Pattaya), and Phuket, which are expected to implement this extension.

The government is in the process of identifying specific zones and making necessary regulatory adjustments to facilitate this change, aiming to stimulate economic growth and promote tourism.

In an official statement following the meeting, the Prime Minister highlighted the involvement of the Ministry of Tourism, the Ministry of Interior, the National Police, and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration in assessing the feasibility of this decision.

The governors of the aforementioned provinces also participated in the meeting to deliberate on the essential steps preceding the implementation of the extended operating hours.

Decisions regarding the delineation of specific zones will be made in due course. The primary objective is to invigorate the economy and enhance tourism, benefiting not only foreign visitors but also local businesses in the tourism sector, including restaurants and service providers.

It’s important to note that this extension will be temporary and will not be uniformly applied across the nation; it will be implemented selectively in accordance with existing laws.

The National Police express confidence in their ability to effectively manage law enforcement and coordinate with relevant authorities to ensure a smooth transition. (TNA)
