From its early days as a thriving confectionary shop and meeting place for the East India Company’s officers in the late 1830s, The Lalit Great Eastern has played an intrinsic part in the life of Bengal. Widely hailed as “Jewel of the East” and “Best Hotel East of the Suez”, the hotel’s heritage and history are celebrated in details like a beautifully-restored century-old piano in the lobby and an 8-foot replica of a trophy bestowed on the hotel by Queen Elizabeth II.
