Westin Hotels announces its return to Singapore

Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. announces the opening of The Westin Singapore Marina Bay in 2013. The Westin Singapore Marina Bay, which will be located at Asia Square Tower 2, has been designed to transform the entire landscape of the luxury hospitality industry in Singapore. Occupying the 32nd to 46th floor of Asia Square Tower 2, the new Westin, which is owned by one of MGPA’s managed funds, will feature the highest hotel lobby in the city state.

The Westin Singapore overlooks the new downtown business precinct skyline of Marina Bay. On arrival, guests will be greeted by the signature Feature Wall of the Westin brand. Using x-ray imagery, the Feature Wall will create an enchanting play of movements which will enhance guests’ experience at the check-in pods. “We are delighted to re-introduce the Westin Brand to Singapore with the opening of this sophisticated and elegant urban retreat. The opening of The Westin Singapore Marina Bay underscores the importance of Singapore to the Westin brand and builds on our strong history in both urban and resort locations throughout Asia,” explained Chuck Abbott, Regional Vice President for Southeast Asia at Starwood Hotels & Resorts.

The hotel’s impressive 305 rooms, The Heavenly Spa by Westin and a 480m2 Banquet Hall are prime examples of the Westin’s nature-inspired design aesthetic. Nature-inspired green features are also significant in the four F&B destinations. The Gastro Bar Specialty Restaurant is fitted with reconstituted timber flooring and wall paneling while Seasonal Taste, which offers all-day dining,  uses bamboo, a renewable fiber source, for its accent flooring. The Westin Singapore Marina Bay will also feature the WestinWORKOUT gym, a business center with a large feature wall composed of sawdust elements captured in resin as well as an infinity pool on the 35th floor. “It is our pleasure to welcome the iconic Westin brand into Asia Square’s Tower 2, the first commercial development to house a five-star business hotel in Singapore. The hotel forms the corner stone that brings to life Asia Square’s “Work, Play, Live, Grow” proposition. This partnership with Westin will complete Asia Square’s strategy to create a highly supportive environment to give businesses that competitive edge,” said James Davis, Managing Director of MGPA.

The Westin design draws its inspiration from nature. With three design schemes – Classic, Modern and Historic to choose from, designers are able to select the schemes based on the location and surroundings of the hotel before expanding their design to create a unique interior for the hotel. The Westin Singapore Marina Bay portrays the new Westin Modern Scheme which bears a modernist sensibility without being fleetingly trend-focused. Its architectural feel emphasizes pleasing streamlined surfaces and timeless design statements. The use of organic textures in a neutral color scheme softens the layout of the guestrooms. The scheme is chosen to reflect its locale within the towering urban landscape of Singapore’s Central Business District while upholding the natural aesthetic which Westin is known for.

The Westin’s new design emphasis on eco-friendliness goes hand in hand with the concept of Asia Square Tower 2, which has been awarded the LEED (Core & Shell) Platinum pre-certification and BCA Green Mark Platinum Award for its sustainability efforts. The Westin Singapore rooms will provide a significant growth in sustainability by utilizing eco-friendly materials such as the motion sensor, which will detect for movements in the room before switching to energy-saving mode, and water-saving low-flow faucets and showerheads. In addition, furniture used in the guestrooms such as the bed end bench, the mini bar and the writing desk detail are ‘green label’ products.

With the wellbeing of our guests in mind, the use of a calming color palette, rich, energizing textures and peaceful patterns of the Westin Design is bound to have guests leave the hotel with a deep sense of renewal, feeling better than when they first arrived.
