BANGKOK, Thailand – On its 20th year of services availability in Thailand, Western Union, a leader in global payment services, inaugurated its landmark at the bridge in Amphawa Floating Market. The only wooden bridge was refurbished and fitted with lighting fixtures. The bridge symbolizes Western Union’s 20 years of strong commitment to bridging connections for Thailand.

The Western Union Amphawa Bridge project also includes the donation of 10 boats to the town of Amphawa as part of a proactive effort to clean up the waterways. Western Union spearheaded this activity through a clean-up drive that was held on June 20th, 2015. Western Union executives and employees together with its Agent representatives from Central Department Store and Bangkok Bank along with community volunteers participated in the clean-up drive on-board the yellow boats that were donated to the town. The mayor of Amphawa Subdistrict Municipality, Sanchai Arayaasanee also participated along with his staff. He received the boat donation from Regional Director of Western Union Indochina Atish Shrestha and presented Western Union with a certificate of appreciation from the town. Both the Mayor and Mr. Shrestha inaugurated the landmark bridge.

The repainted bridge, with its new clock pole, is a landmark for Western Union which has grown from one location 20 year ago to over 6,000 Agent locations across Thailand.

Since the Western Union services became available 20 years ago, Western Union has always had a clear business philosophy of respecting and supporting the communities it serves through community development and proactive projects such as preserving historical landmarks and Thailand’s natural beauty for the benefit of all,” says Atish K. Shrestha, Regional Director – Indochina, Western Union.
