Visitor arrivals from the UK to South Korea for the first three months of 2005 were up 14% on last year to 23,900.
Initial figures for April show a massive 42% increase on 2004.
Visitor arrivals from the UK to South Korea were up 9% in 2004 to 65,975.
Michael Michael, Marketing Manager for KNTO said, This proves that our strategy of working with tour operators to include Korea in their programmes is working. We are continuing to expand on this activity and are confident that arrivals will continue to grow as Korea becomes more identifiable as a leisure destination to the UK market.
We are also planning joint activity with Korean Air and Asiana Airlines targeting Australasian tour operators to include Korea as a stopover destination. There is no reason why Seoul should not become a major stopover point to rival Hong Kong or Singapore.
Joint consumer and trade advertising is planned with Korean Air and a tour operator fam trip to promote stopovers is planned with Asiana for the Autumn.
Michael added Now that Emirates have introduced flights from Dubai to Seoul we will be promoting 2 centre holidays with the Emirate – a weeks tour in Korea followed by a week on the beach in Dubai, for example. We are in discussions with operators featuring Dubai to include this in their programmes.
