ICTP announced its first Chapter in Houston, Texas. The Chapter President will Jane Ellen Nickey, CTA, ACC, President of New Horizons Cruise and Travel.
Ms. Nickey believes taking a leadership role in the formation of the Dallas/Houston ICTP Chapter reflects her beliefs regarding travel and tourism.
Nickey said Tourism should promote peace, equal justice and sustainable environments. I like to network and have lived in the Houston area for over twenty years; I have many contacts in the travel industry and other businesses.
Some of Jane Ellen Nickey`s accomplishments and interests include being the Scholarship Chairwoman for the AAUW (American Association of University Women), Co-Chair of the CTO (Caribbean Tourism Organization) Publicity Committee and newsletter, Member and Volunteer for Texas state organization, Texas Freedom Network, Houston Audubon Society member, Cruise Lines International Association member, among others.
The Houston/Dallas Chapter will be recruiting local business leaders and developing local initiatives with ICTP Headquarters to promote its goals by working to the UN Millennium Development Goals and the World Tourism Organization Code of Ethics. ICTP encourages:
- Public/private partnerships for development & poverty reduction
- Fair tourism trade
- Enhanced security and travel facilitation
- Sustainable tourism – ecological, social, economic
- Improved travel education
- Tourism as an instrument of peace & reconciliation
- Disaster relief initiatives
ICTP Chairman Thomas Steinmetz said Chapters are important to the ICTP community. Working with the local chapters will enable ICTP to share knowledge, expertise, best practices and experiences with local tourism professionals. Over the next 12 months, ICTP will be establishing a number of chapters globally.
