Tougher scrutiny at borders set to make New Zealand an even safer travel destination

An NZeTA is simple to apply for online and it takes just a few minutes. Travellers should allow up to 72 hours for processing.

Upcoming changes to New Zealand border control mean that travellers from over 60 countries will need to obtain an NZeTA (New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority) before they begin their travel to New Zealand. Previously ‘visa waiver’ countries, travellers from the likes of the USA, UK, Spain, Singapore and many more could visit the country with ease. As of October 1st, these rules will be changing.

Although the new changes might catch some travellers out, they’re actually good news for travel safety. New Zealand already boasts a Global Peace Index value of under 1.2, which places them behind only Iceland in the world’s most peaceful destinations. With these extra measures aimed to prevent people considered a risk travelling there, international tourists can visit with more confidence. In a climate where 67% of international travellers state ‘safety and security’ as their biggest travel concern, this could be a real win for tourism to New Zealand.

John Lightwood, Founder & Co-Director of New Zealand travel specialists Silver Fern Holidays says: “I think the new eco-levy and e-visa arrangements shortly to be introduced for international visitors, will have a positive impact on tourism to New Zealand. Yes, it’s a bit more hassle with the paperwork, but it ensures the country remains one of the safest countries to travel to – and supports conservation programmes to protect their outstanding natural environment”.

An NZeTA is simple to apply for online and it takes just a few minutes. Travellers should allow up to 72 hours for processing. The NZeTA costs just $9 via the free application app, or $12 if completed online. This simple and low-cost process will help to keep travellers visiting New Zealand safer from threats.

Silver Fern Holidays are working hard to raise awareness of these new changes for all travellers to New Zealand. They are offering extra help and support to everyone travelling with them to ensure they have the right paperwork and their travel plans to this special destination remain easy and enjoyable.
