Tiger Airways wins CAPA Low Cost Airline of the Year Award for 2010

Tiger Airways has made 2010 truly the “Year of the Tiger” by winning the coveted Low Cost Airline of the Year award from the Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation (CAPA). In the CAPA Aviation Awards for Excellence 2010, Tiger Airways again beat the field repeating the feat it first achieved in 2006.

Tony Davis, President & Group CEO of Tiger Airways Holdings, said, “We would like to thank CAPA, the judges, our partners and customers for this award. 2010 has been a phenomenal year for Tiger Airways that started in January with our successful IPO – the first airline IPO in Asia for 5 years, completed during one of the most challenging financial climates in recent history. Since then we have reported three straight Quarters of profitability with Tiger Airways Singapore achieving a third successive year of profitability and Tiger Airways Australia breaking even in only its second full year of operations.

“We are already number 1 in Asia and Australia in generating ancillary revenues and we aim to be in the top three airlines globally. We are widening this lead by offering our customers more and more innovative ancillary services that empower them with choice, coupled with low fares – our latest product is our loyalty membership scheme called “Stripes”.

“We have also achieved record passenger numbers and sustainable growth in excess of 43% this year, while maintaining a world-class cost base that enables us to offer the lowest fares.

“We are expanding our paw-print as a truly pan-Asian airline through adding our third base in Australia, expanding our network in Asia, accelerating our aircraft deliveries and increasing our fleet size to at least 26 aircraft by the end of March. With our newest cub “Thai Tiger” on track to launch in the first Quarter of next year – bringing more competition and lower fares to travellers visiting Thailand – it’s no wonder some of our competitors are getting so rattled.

“We look forward to continuing our growth, bringing more competition to more routes and winning more accolades as our pawprints appear at more and more airports in the Asia Pacific region” said Tony Davis.

In the judging process, Asia Pacific airports, airlines and the industry are reviewed constantly through the year via CAPA’s extensive data and information services gathering and reporting. This daily performance analysis, along with feedback from CAPA Members, is accumulated into a series of recommendations. A highly experienced aviation advisory panel – including industry CEOs – reviews and decides on the recommendations.
