Tiger Airways is the first regional low cost carrier to fly to Colombo out of Singapore.
SINGAPORE– Tiger Airways, one of Singapore-based low-cost carriers, launched its inaugural direct service between Colombo and Singapore on May 31. With Tiger Airways Singapore’s strong track record – with a near 100% flight completion in 2011, punctuality rate of over 85%, its fleet of less than three years old Airbus and regular promotion fares, the Airline expects the new service to be well-received by travellers. “We are focused on building our network and connectivity in the region. Tiger Airways’ direct service between Colombo and Singapore will provide more options at great value fares for leisure and business travellers,” said Dave Perring, Tiger Airways’ Commercial Director. “Singapore is now a hop away for Sri Lankans wanting to explore the sights and sounds of the garden city. Likewise, the rich history and natural beauty of Sri Lanka is within easy reach.” Tiger Airways operates the service three times a week on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday.
Tiger Airways was established in September 2004 and has steadily grown its fleet to 34 A320 aircraft. It also has two A319s that are operated independently by SEAir in the Philippines under a partner airline programme and recently moved to Indonesia by entering into the capital of local carrier Mandala Air. Mandala Air operates again flights between Singapore and Medan, Medan and Jakarta and since May between Jakarta and Kuala Lumpur. Tiger Air Group plans to build its fleet to 68 aircraft by December 2015. Operating from its bases in Singapore and Australia, Tiger Airways’ network extends to over 30 destinations across 12 countries in the Asia Pacific region.
