Three international sports events concluded successfully according to Nepal Tourism Board

The biggest Asian Junior cricket tournament, ACC Under 19 Cricket Tournament concluded with Nepal beating Malaysia by seven wickets in the final match played at the Tribhuvan University Cricket Ground in Kirtipur, Kathmandu. Fifteen non-test cricket-playing Asian nations had vied for the title in the biggest ever-international sporting event in the country. The participating countries were Nepal, Bahrain, Kuwait, Afghanistan, Qatar, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Saudi Arabia, U.A.E., Iran, Oman, Thailand, Brunei and Maldives. The tournament took place in four different venues: Tribhuvan University Cricket Ground, Kirtipur Tundikhel Ground, Kathmandu, Engineering Institute Ground, Lalitpur and Birendra Sainik Awasiya Mahavidyalaya, Bhaktapur.

The Crown Prince Paras Bir Bikram Shah Dev inaugurated the Fifth Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Under-19 Cup Cricket Championship at the Tribhuvan University cricket ground in Kirtipur on November 7, 2005 amidst the grand function.

A variety of dance performance depicting the Nepali culture was shown at the inauguration function.

The winner of the tourney, Nepal has qualified for ICC U-19 Youth World Cup to be held in Sri Lanka next year. The tournament was organized by Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) and promoted by Nepal Tourism Board.

In another football event, Nepal qualified for the AFC U-17 Youth Championships to be held in Bangladesh next year by beating Uzbekistan 2-0 in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) held at Kathmandu, Nepal on November. Earlier, Nepal beat Kyrgyzstan on November 14 by 2-1 goal.

South Asian Regional under 16 Boys Team Badminton Championship was held in Kathmandu, Nepal. It was participated by Nepal, India and Sri Lanka. The Indian team emerged as victorious in this Championship.

Nepal is now slowly becoming the hub for sports events with many international sports in the pipeline to be taken place in Nepal. Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Under-17 Asia Cup will be held in Nepal next year.
