Thailand and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on March 8 signed an aviation pact in Abu Dhabi, aimed at further expanding passenger and cargo transportation.

Under the new agreement, the national carriers of the two countries will be entitled to full traffic rights enabling operations of any kind of aircraft between the two countries.

Thai Airways now conducts 11 flights weekly to the UAE, while the two carriers of the UAE, Emirates and Gulf Air operate 14 and 11 flights, respectively, every week to Thailand.

The UAE`s Dubai International Airport is a major international aviation gateway, with 105 airlines worldwide operating at the airport, connecting 145 destinations. The airport served 18 million passengers in 2003, and is expected to receive more than 20 million people this year, and 60 million by the year 2010.-Enditem
