The dengue fever outbreak in a number of Indonesian provices has yet to make an impact on the number of foreign tourists coming to the country, Culture and Tourism Minister I Gde Ardika said here Monday.
Until now, I have yet to receive information about foreign tourists postponing their visit to Indonesia for fear of catching the disease, Ardika said after receiving a delegation from Madagascar`s Culture and Tourism Ministry.
Learning from last year`s Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) epidemic, Ardika said his ministry, in behalf of the government, continues to do its best to give foreign tourists clear and transparent information about dengue fever.
I think there is no need to be excessively afraid that dengue fever would have an impact on the number of foreign tourists coming to Indonesia, he noted.
Asked to comment about this year`s general elections, the minister said the democratic celebration should be conducted differently from the previous ones.
We have to abandon the old perception that the general election is frightening. Instead, the election campaigns have to be conducted in an entertaining manner through culture, art and music to attract foreign tourists, he added.
He expressed hope that political party leaders would conduct their campaigns peacefully to prevent discouraging foreign tourists from spending their holidays in Indonesia during the election.
