The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) unveiled new tourism plans for the well-known resort of Pattaya, turning its proximity to the new Suvarnabhumi Airport into its main selling point, while preparing for the establishment of a special call centre for Pattaya tourist information.

Mr. Niti Khongkrut, Director of the TAT`s Central Region Office, Region 3, said that the plans for the 2005 fiscal year had been drawn up in conjunction with local tourism organizations.

Expressing pleasure that the Pattaya authorities had approved a Bt10 million publicity budget for the TAT`s Pattaya office to spend on publicity, he said that this amount would be matched by the same sum from the TAT itself.

As far as foreign publicity is concerned, the TAT will concentrate on the Asian market, especially China, Hong Kong, Singapore and South Korea, with publicity conducted via television, newspapers, billboards and advertising on buses and trains.

The focus of the campaign will be on the convenience of travel to Pattaya, with a mere one-hour journey time between Pattaya and Bangkok`s new Suvarnabhumi Airport, due to open in September next year.

On the domestic front, the TAT will turn to visitors from Bangkok, both independent tourists and conference guests.

Mr. Niti also revealed that the TAT was establishing a tourist information call centre for Pattaya, with visitors being able to gain tourist information by dialling 1555.
