The Tourism Action Group the driving force behind the recovery of Fiji tourism has been activated by the Fiji tourism industry. The primary aim of TAG is to unite the tourism industry and speak with one voice during the recovery period.

Fiji Visitor’s Bureau Chief Executive, Mr Villiame Gavoka, says “the Fiji tourism industry has reactivated the Tourism Action Group (TAG), the driving force behind the recovery following the upheavals in 2000”.

TAG will have 2 committees, one dealing with international marketing and the other on domestic issues. The four-week long impasse and the change in Government has been peaceful with the tourism industry functioning normally.

The Chief Executive of the South Pacific Tourism Organisation based in Fiji, Mr Tony Everitt, described the current local situation as being “calm with businesses operating as normal”.

“Visitor’s continue to enjoy their holidays at resorts around Fiji”, he said. “The South Pacific Tourism Organisation is currently monitoring whether publicity has had any impact on visitor numbers to the wider South Pacific region, however it is still too early to understand this with any certainty,” Mr Everitt concluded.
