Starwood Hotels & Resorts goes back to the Philippines with Westin and Sheraton properties

Starwood settles in Manila with a Westin resort – meaning the reintroduction of the brand in the Philippines as well as with a Sheraton property. Both hotels are integrated within new entertainment’s resorts in the Philippines capital.

MANILA – Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide will introduce its two largest brands – Westin and Sheraton – to two new multi-billion dollar integrated entertainment complexes in Manila. Starwood will manage The Westin Manila Bayshore, scheduled to open in mid-2016 as part of the Resorts World Bayshore in the Entertainment City development in Parañaque,; and Sheraton Manila Hotel in the Resorts World Manila development located in Newport City, Pasay. The Sheraton Manila Hotel is slated for opening in early 2017.

The opening of the two hotels fuels Starwood’s remarkable growth trajectory in Asia Pacific. The company is the region’s largest upper-upscale and luxury hotel company; it currently operates over 230 hotels in Asia Pacific with plans to reach 400 operating hotels in the region by 2016.

The Westin Manila Bayshore and Sheraton Manila Hotel are integral components of Resorts World Bayshore and Resorts World Manila, respectively. These new mixed-use development hubs feature entertainment venues, luxury retail establishments and gaming facilities, leveraging favorable economic conditions. The planned development of The Westin Manila Bayshore also represents the Westin brand’s re-entry into the Philippine market.

“We are thrilled to enter the vibrant, booming market in the Philippines, and believe there is ample demand for the Westin brand’s signature programs and amenities, as well as the Sheraton brand’s unique blend of hospitality, connectivity and comfort,” says Chuck Abbott, Regional Vice President, Southeast Asia, Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc.

“Resorts World Bayshore and Resorts World Manila are expected to be among the region’s preeminent entertainment destinations, and Starwood is pleased to have been selected by their respective owners to provide world class brands and services to visitors and guests.”

“We are excited about the rebirth of these two well-known and recognized international hotel brands from Starwood and welcome them back in the Philippines. Westin is a very strong brand that will contribute to the positioning of Resorts World Bayshore as a world-class integrated resort and leisure facility. It is about time to bring back the Westin brand in the bay area, where it used to be popular. Since Phase 1 of Resorts World Bayshore will be double the size of Resorts World Manila, we will be able to offer more entertainment facilities by our target opening in 2016,” says Kingson U. Sian, President of Travellers International Hotel Group, Inc.

Both the Westin Manila Bayshore and Sheraton Manila Hotel are owned by Travellers International Hotel Group, Inc.

“The Sheraton brand has always been a pioneer in the industry, forging ahead with a first-mover advantage in many markets. Sheraton has broken ground for Starwood’s entry into other important Asian countries including China, Thailand and Malaysia,” says Matthew Fry, Senior Vice President, Acquisition & Development, Asia Pacific, Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc.

Today Sheraton maintains a presence in 16 countries in the region, with over 90 hotels in operation and plans to reach 150 operating hotels by 2016. Westin, the second largest brand in Asia Pacific within Starwood’s portfolio, features over 40 hotels in operation and 20 hotels in the pipeline. Mr. Fry adds, “Our distinct and compelling brands continue to appeal to developers and owners, fueling our expansion across the Asia Pacific region.”

Sheraton Manila Hotel, as part of the Resorts World Manila complex, is to be situated in Metro Manila, the Philippines’ seat of government. It will be located directly across Terminal 3 of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, adjacent to the Villamor Golf Course, and a 10-minute drive to Makati City, Manila’s central business district. Resorts World Manila, comprised of hotels, restaurants, gaming facilities, entertainment options and a luxury mall, is set to join the ranks of highly successful integrated entertainment hubs such as Resorts World Genting in Malaysia, and Resorts World Sentosa in Singapore.

“We are happy to welcome back the Sheraton brand which will definitely contribute to the continued success of Resorts World Manila. With the entry of the Sheraton brand, we expect that we will be able to reach approximately 1,500 hotel rooms in the Resorts World Manila complex, which is centrally located in close proximity from the airport,” says Kingson U. Sian, President of Travellers International Hotel Group, Inc.

Offering 350 stylish, contemporary guest rooms and suites, Sheraton Manila Hotel will be a part of the third phase of the project to be completed by 2017, binding its guests with an exceptionally warm and welcoming hospitality experience underpinned by the sentiment “The World’s Gathering place”. The hotel will boast three dining venues, including an all-day restaurant, specialty restaurant, and Lobby Lounge; 420 square meters of meeting space; the Sheraton Club and Club Lounge; and a full service Shine Spa for Sheraton.

The Westin Manila Bayshore is to be located in the Resorts World Bayshore mixed-use complex at Entertainment City, a massive master planned development on reclaimed land in scenic Manila Bay. In addition to the 600-room Westin hotel, highlights of Resorts World Bayshore include a grand opera house, a luxury shopping mall along with other entertainment complexes and extensive gaming areas. The integrated complex, which is projected to open in mid-2016, is expected to become a premier travel destination.

Developed under phase one of the project, Westin Manila Bayshore will bring the brand’s sensory-rich environment, including innovative programs and instinctive service, to Resorts World Bayshore, offering guests a welcoming respite from the rigors of travel and helping them leave feeling better than when they arrived. The hotel will offer state-of-the-art fitness facilities and swimming pool, its signature spa “Heavenly Spa” and 2,300 square meters of meeting and function space.
