Sri Lanka surf tourism catches a break as Cantaloupe Hotels Group partners the perfect wave

Boutique hospitality company teams up with world's leading surfing tour operator and unveils plans for new Surf School, providing major boost to Sri Lankan tourism industry.

COLOMBO, SRI LANKA – Leading hip boutique hotel operator, Cantaloupe Hotels Group, has formed a new partnership with The Perfect Wave that is set to establish Sri Lanka as a world-class surfing destination.

Leading hip boutique hotel operator, Cantaloupe Hotels Group, has formed a new partnership with The Perfect Wave that is set to establish Sri Lanka as a world-class surfing destination.

As an island nation with golden beaches lapped by the waves of the Indian Ocean, Sri Lanka has all the natural attributes needed to become a surfing hotspot. This potential has been largely untapped, however – until now!

Cantaloupe Hotels Group, which currently operates two trendy, upscale boutique hotels in Galle, has teamed up with The Perfect Wave, the world’s largest surf travel network, to offer a series of exciting Sri Lankan surfing packages for experienced surfers and beginners alike.

The hotel group is also in the process of creating a new Surf School at “Lazy Left” in Midigama, the spiritual home of Sri Lankan surfing on the island’s south coast. This will also be the location of Cantaloupe’s brand new seafront hotel, Cantaloupe Veralu Verala, which is expected to open in 2018 and will become the only upscale hotel in Sri Lanka focused primarily on the surfing market.

The Perfect Wave partnership and packages will help boost visitor arrivals from several key markets, including Australia, while positioning Sri Lanka as an attractive alternative to traditional surfing destinations such as Bali.

The Perfect Wave is the perfect partner for Cantaloupe Hotels Group, as we aim to realise the full potential of upmarket surf tourism in Sri Lanka,” commented Nadeem Rajabdeen, Director of Cantaloupe Hotels Group. “We look forward to welcoming experienced surfers and first-time visitors who want to discover Sri Lanka’s superb surfing breaks and beachfront beauty.

“Together with The Perfect Wave, we have put together some fantastic packages that allow guests to experience some of the island’s top surf spots, including Lazy Left, where our new Surf School will be located. For surfers seeking a new and unspoiled surfing destination, or adventurous travellers wanting a beach break with a difference, Sri Lanka is the perfect choice,” he added.

Cantaloupe Hotels Group has now revealed details of the “Surf Experience” packages at its two hip hotels in Galle for the 2017-18 winter surfing season, which runs until April 2018. Guests can enjoy four-night/five-day or seven-night/eight-day packages at Cantaloupe Levels and Cantaloupe Aqua, including stylish sea-facing accommodation, lessons for inexperienced surfers or professional guide services for those seeking the best breaks, shuttle services to Sri Lanka’s top surfing spots, airport transfers and free Wi-Fi.

Surrounded by the pure blue waters of the Indian Ocean, Sri Lanka is a year-round surfing destination and marine tourism paradise. The launch of the “Surf Experience” packages follows the recent unveiling of Cantaloupe Hotels Group’s “Big Blue” packages, which include whale-watching trips and other sustainable oceanic experiences.

The group’s first boutique hotel, Cantaloupe Aqua, opened in Talpe in 2013, and was followed a year later by Cantaloupe Levels in Rumassala. Cantaloupe Hotels Group’s expansion will continue in the coming months, with two new properties scheduled to launch in 2018. These include Cantaloupe Veralu Verala, a hip 18-room boutique hotel in Midigama, which will feature the new Surf School.
