The South Africa Ball will stay true to its roots by bringing award-winning performers Qadasi and Maqhinga to Bangkok for the event.

BANGKOK – The South Africa Ball, brings a golden night of South African culture and celebrating 25 Years of Diplomatic Relations with Thailand alongside with the Centenary of Nelson Mandela’s birth, will be taking place on Saturday 6th October 2018. Proudly hosted by JABULANI and the SOUTH AFRICAN – THAI CHAMBER OF COMMERCE (SATCC).

The South Africa Ball will support and fundraise for two worthwhile charity organisations: The RICE SEEDS CHILD SPONSORSHIP PROGRAM and The HOEDSPRUIT ENDANGERED SPECIES CENTRE (HESC) RHINO ORPHANAGE.

The South Africa Ball will stay true to its roots by bringing award-winning performers Qadasi and Maqhinga to Bangkok for the event. Qadasi and Maqhinga play the powerful sounds of traditional Maskandi music and will also be visiting local and International Schools in there time here, working with students on composition, performance and more.

Catering to a varied collection of South African pastimes, the South Africa vs New Zealand Rugby Championship game will be streamed live from 10pm.

We chose the theme of the event to be, We Are Golden, as a way of celebrating the rich diversity and heritage of South Africa and its prosperity. It’s an ode to our extensive natural resources, our incredible wildlife, our rainbow nation and we see the ball as an opportunity to share this with everyone,” says Shelley Bragg, SA Ball Events Committee.

Tickets are on sale now and there is limited seating available. The event also offers valuable sponsorship opportunities, tailored to fit different budgets, ensuring that everyone can contribute.

We are delighted to host a great event like this in a particularly special year that celebrates 25 Years of Diplomatic Relations between South Africa and Thailand. This year is also the Centenary of Nelson Mandela’s birth and it is appropriate that the South Africa Ball contributes to Charity organisations to provides the support that they need! We invite not only South Africans, but also our fellow Thais and other communities to have a fantastic evening and at the same time  help underprivileged children to complete their schooling and help to provide a safe haven for rhinos rescued from poachers,” Mr. Ragil Ratnam, SATCC Chairman, announced.

Andrew J Wood was born in Yorkshire England, he is a former hotelier, Skalleague and travel writer. Andrew has 48 years of hospitality and travel experience. Educated at Batley Grammar School and a hotel graduate of Napier University, Edinburgh. Andrew started his career in London, working with various hotels. His first posting overseas was with Hilton International, in Paris, and he later arrived in Asia in 1991 on Bangkok with his appointment as Director of Marketing at the Shangri-La Hotel and has remained in Thailand ever since. Andrew has also worked with the Royal Garden Resort Group now Anantara (Vice President) and the Landmark Group of Hotels (Vice President of Sales and Marketing). Latterly he has been the General Manager at the Royal Cliff Group of Hotels in Pattaya and the Chaophya Park Hotel Bangkok & Resorts.

A past board member and Director of Skål International (SI), a former National President with SI Thailand and a two time past President of the Bangkok Club. Andrew is the former President of Skål Asia. In 2019, Andrew was awarded SKÅL’s highest award the distinction of Membre D’Honneur.

He is a regular guest lecturer at various Universities in Asia.
