Sarawak ‘ape’ to no good in the land of dreams

Apart from the encouraging response from the Soulful Orangutan Appeal Project at the IMEX America, SCB had also promoted Sarawak as a business event destination to industry contacts in America via the 'Borneo Talk' program and unique incentive program "Borneo Quest – Be Part of the Tribe" in Los Angeles.

KUCHING – The Sarawak Convention Bureau (SCB) recently launched its “Soulful Orang-utan Appeal Project” at IMEX America; this key trade show for the global meetings, incentive travel and events industry was held in Las Vegas from the 14th to 16th October 2014.

Soulful Orang-utan Appeal Project will be an ongoing tradeshow initiative of SCB to promote Sarawak Forestry Corporation’s (SFC) popular CSR program – Heart2Heart with Orang-utans. With just a “Like” and a “Share” of Soulful Orang-utan Appeal Project’s Facebook page, visitors to the page can be part of the program and make a difference. Each “Like” received equals to a USD 1.00 donation from the Sarawak Convention Bureau under the name of each participating individual.

Managing Director, Mike Cannon commented, “The response to Soulful Orang-utan Appeal Project was encouraging as we had visitors to our booth enquiring about not only Sarawak’s CSR programs, but what else the destination could offer; which was our main objective to get people talking about Sarawak.

Exhibiting under the Malaysia banner with partners, Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB), CPH Travel Agency and Borneo Adventure from Sarawak, the 2014 show was a great success. Built on a core trade show format, IMEX America offered great networking opportunities and free education thanks to multiple partnerships with leading global and American industry associations.

General Manager, Chew Chang Guan commented, “IMEX America allowed the Bureau to discover more business opportunities in North America and a chance to showcase our products and services to the local buyers by giving them a taste of Sarawak in Las Vegas. Visitors were also thrilled to meet our ‘soulful’ ambassador, Brooke.

Targeting association meetings and conferences by norm, SCB also promoted “Borneo Quest – Be Part of the Tribe”, a uniquely crafted corporate incentive programme, to potential buyers from a broader market that appreciates adventure in a rich natural setting; such as the million year old rainforests of Borneo.

In addition, SCB, together with co-IMEX exhibitors, CPH Travel Agency and Borneo Adventure undertook extended sales and marketing activities in Los Angeles prior to attending IMEX America. A ‘Borneo Talk’ program followed by an interactive event was held for potential clients and invitees from SCB’s contacts as well as Malaysian industry partners, Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), Malaysia Investment Development Authority (MIDA) and Tourism Malaysia; this exciting event was managed by WOW Collection.
