Pullman Jakarta in full refurbishment

Accor finally manages to have two five-star properties in Jakarta, winning a long battle.

JAKARTA- Since the end of January, the former Nikko Hotel Jakarta has been rebranded as Pullman Jakarta. The elegant hotel, built in the early eighties, is located at one of the most strategic areas in the Indonesian capital around Jalan Thamrin and just facing some of the city’s most exclusive shopping centres such as Plaza Indonesia and Grand Indonesia. For Gerard Guillouet, Vice President for Accor, Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia,  “The rebranding of this strategically located hotel in Jakarta demonstrates our commitment to developing a network of upscale hotels in Indonesia. The business travel market in Indonesia has matured significantly providing a catalyst for the expansionof this well positioned upscale business oriented hotel brand”.

Accor has been looking for a long time to have hotels in the luxury segment in the Indonesian capital. A former project of having a Sofitel at the new Senayan City Mall never materialized. Despite the presence of ten Accor- managed hotels in Jakarta (Novotel, mercure, Ibis and Formule 1), all the attempts were unsuccessful until last year. Accor opened its first Pullman in Jakarta at Central Park in Podomoro City, a brand new development comprising a gigantic hypermarket, a mall, residences and the hotel. The Pullman Jakarta Central Park offers 317 rooms and conference facilities for up to 4,000 delegates. It is conveniently located on the tollway from the airport but still on the outskirts of Central Jakarta.

The take-over of the former Nikko is for now the flagship of Accor in the capital. Pullman Jakarta Indonesia offers 427 guest rooms and suites in two wings -Pullman Tower and Executive Tower- both providing from all the rooms panoramic views of the city.  A major upgrade of the hotel is now underway. Started in the second quarter, the complete overhaul will last until 2013. It will include the refurbishment of all guest rooms, lobby, all day dining and the ballroom. Accor will also add new event facilities, providing a future capacity of accommodating up to 1,000 delegates for meetings, conventions and other major events. A new Japanese restaurant for Tepanyaki is the first new facility made available to the public. The new architecture of the hotel will reflect Pullman philosophy of being a contemporary non-ostentatious place to come.

Commenting about the new property, Michael Issenberg, Chairman and Chief Operating Officer of Accor Asia Pacific, said, “The rebranding of the Pullman Jakarta Indonesia is very important for us as the brand is at the core of our upscale portfolio and is today the fastest growing five star hotel brand in Asia Pacific. In just three years, Pullman has expanded to over 70 hotels throughout the world with 23 of them operating here in Asia Pacific.  Beyond this existing network, we have commitments for a further 34 Pullman hotels in the region. We are well on track to achieve our previously stated ambitions of having 100 Pullman hotels in Asia Pacific by 2015.”

Accor continues to expand further in Indonesia. From 2011 to 2013, some 30 hotels are due to join the group’s portfolio in the country. A Pullman was opened in February 2011 in Bali while five Novotel will or have been completed in Jakarta Gajah Mada and Tangerang, in Pekanbaru (Sumatra), in Sentul and at Banjarmasin Airport in Borneo.
