PENANG, MALAYSIA – The Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) Malaysia Chapter hosted the inaugural Tourism Reconnect conference, themed The Next Episode: Change Ready, co-organised by Penang Convention & Exhibition Bureau (PCEB).

The conference took place on the 24th March at Royale Chulan Penang and was streamed live via the official virtual conference platform. The hybrid conference received more than 100 participants who attended in person in Penang, as well as 110 virtual attendees from 10 different countries. The conference addressed current popular topics which includes New Age of Destination Marketing-Going Digital, Business Recovery and Mastering Hybrid Events, Revitalising Tourism: The Emergence of Neuromarketing and more that were extremely valuable to the travel and tourism sectors.

The conference served as a fantastic platform for travel and tourism players to gather, reconnect and enjoy incredible networking opportunities. This Tourism Reconnect is mainly aimed to provide a platform for Malaysian travel trade participants from the PATA Malaysia Chapter (PMC) membership and other relevant industry partners to meet and network with local tourism players from the northern region, including PATA global chapter participants, with the ultimate goal of exploring enhanced business opportunities.

The programme concluded with a Familiarisation (FAM) Tour with PMC members, where they had an extraordinary incentive experience at Georgetown, Penang. The group started the tour from Penang Hill which is recognised by UNESCO as Malaysia’s third biosphere reserve. The tour continued with a nature walk at The Habitat Penang Hill which recently won the ASEAN Sustainable Tourism Award Urban Category 2022-2023.

The tour ended with an experiential trishaw excursion of Penang’s prominent attractions such as Armenian Street, Khoo Kongsi, Street of Harmony, Acheh Street, just to name a few, which was flagged off by YB Yeoh Soon Hin, the Penang State Exco for Tourism and Creative Economy. This familiarisation tour also served as an exceptional incentive experience that marked the reactivation of Penang’s tourism sector.
