PATA launches ‘Tomorrow’s Tourism’ competition

PATA is inviting undergraduate students from member educational establishments to submit their ideas for a more sustainable model of tourism development.

The ‘Tomorrow’s Tourism’ contest was launched last week at a PATA-organised seminar on Human Resources Challenges at the IFT Institute for Tourism Studies, Macau SAR. It challenges students to come up with a new way of measuring tourism, that takes into account its wider impact on the environment and community at large.

The competition is part of PATA’s 60th anniversary activities, which kicked off last week at PATA Travel Mart and will continue throughout 2011. Students can work on their own, or in a team of no more than three, and make a five-minute video presentation of their ideas. Once complete, they simply upload the video to YouTube and email the link to PATA60@pata.org along with a short (250-750 words) synopsis no later than December 15, 2010.

Three finalist teams will be selected to present their ideas to a panel of judges at the 60th Anniversary and Conference in Beijing, April 9-12, 2011, with travel and accommodation costs subsidised by PATA. The winning school will take part in a debate with PATA life members and selected industry professionals the following day, as also receive a financial award for their educational establishment.
