Online travel sales boosted in China India and Southeast Asia

According to the PhoCusWrite “Asia Pacific Online Travel Overview, Fifth Edition” report from August 2012, online travel sale are expected to increase from $79 billion in 2012 to $91 billion in 2013 in the Asia Pacific countries, almost double as much as the overall travel sales.

The Asia Pacific (APAC) hotel industry continues its impressive growth trajectory, undaunted by concerns over an economic slowdown in China and India. The hotel landscape is undergoing a major transformation, as a robust supply pipeline boosts the share of branded properties in the region. Demand is expected to keep pace with the increased supply, as travelers embrace new ways of researching and booking hotels. Following significant gains in 2011, strong but slowing growth will continue through 2013, when online penetration will reach 22% of total room revenues.

According to the PhoCusWright “Asia Pacific Online Travel Overview, Fifth Edition” report from August 2012, online travel sale are expected to increase from $79 billion in 2012 to $91 billion in 2013 in the Asia Pacific countries, almost double as much as the overall travel sales. Asia- Pacific countries are now experiencing an incease in wealth as well as an emergence of greater internet penetration, both factors influence this online travel sales increase. The regions of China, India and Southeast Asia (including Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand) are the countries between which the online travel rates are to be shared, with China having a 3% overall increase, from 14% to 17%, while more mature travel markets like Japan and Australia/New Zealand will experience a decrease.
