Novotel unveils its innovative new guest room

Novotel, one of the world’s leading upper mid-scale hotel brands unveiled an innovative new guest room with the opening of Novotel Bangkok Ploenchit, the newest Novotel in the centre of the Thai capital. Sporting a plethora of features designed to re-humanise travel by creating a sanctuary for guests, the room will be deployed throughout the network of over 400 Novotel’s around the world.

A completely rethought living space
The new generation guest room has been considered differently and designed as a cocoon, a place where guests feel at ease and from which they emerge “re-energised”. It gives an impression of spaciousness and freedom of movement. The room is intended to suit all types of guests, both business and leisure travelers (singles, couples or families), who will appreciate the room’s design and many new practical features.

Spaciousness and transparency are the room’s main characteristics. It no longer features a “physical” separation, but is designed as an entirely open area where clients will create their own spaces and
atmosphere.

The bathroom is a key design feature and marks a significant shift. It is separated from the rest of the room by a transparent glass partition that becomes opaque at the flick of a switch (Privalite technology by Saint Gobain). This glass partition can either let in light creating a sense of spaciousness, or preserve privacy and intimacy.

The bed is one of the new room’s fundamental and most striking features and central to all guest activities: sleeping, working or reading. The bed is raised and enthroned by an upholstered headboard that follows the contours of the back perfectly when leant on and with individual swiveling reading lights and framed with soft lighting. A versatile sidetable can be drawn up to the bed and used for a range of purposes including working or dining.

The room also includes other practical and technological features such as: a 32’ flat screen television, Wi-Fi and / or wired internet access, a range of connectors to the television (USB, audio, video), a multipurpose shelf (mini bar, safe, and tea and coffee making facilities) all conveniently placed at eye level.

Sober, timeless color schemes, highlighted with touches of red, yellow or blue have been used and the Tolomeo designer lamps by Artemide add an extra atmospheric touch. Speaking at the new guest room’s unveiling event, Frederic Josenhans, Senior Vice President Marketing and Brands Development for Accor said “Innovation has been at the core of Novotel brand since its beginning over 40 years ago. An enormous amount of thought, research and testing has been invested in this innovative new room and when combined with the multitude of unique products that make up Novotel today, will ensure that the brand retains its leading position as a reference for upper mid-scale hotels around the world.”

Where to find the new Novotel room
All new hotels will be fitted exclusively with this new Novotel room. The new room can already be found in 9 Novotel’s around the world; Bangkok (Thailand), Rennes (France), Yekaterinburg (Russia), Sydney (Australia), Taipei (Taiwan), Buenos Aires (Argentina). In 2011, the brand is planning to open 15 new hotels (more than half of these in Asia Pacific) and renovate several others. The network will be entirely refurbished within the next 5 to 7 years.

Novotel Bangkok Fenix Ploenchit opens its doors
The newly-built 370 contemporarily-designed Novotel is located in one of Bangkok’s prime spots at
the steps of Ploenchit Skytrain Station. Towering 29 storeys above Ploenchit Road, Novotel Bangkok Fenix Ploenchit promises business and leisure travelers a new experience and convenient stay in the centre of Bangkok with full-fledge facilities including The Square, Novotel’s signature allday dining and buffet restaurant, several multi-function meeting rooms and a ballroom that can welcome up to 210 guests, In Balance fitness system and Dee Lounge – a leisure meeting point for drinks and snacks. This hotel is the tenth Novotel hotel in Thailand and features the newest design of the new generation guest rooms, providing a fine example of what the brand offers globally.

Today in Asia Pacific, Accor operates 86 Novotel hotels and resorts. During 2011, additional Novotels will open in: Nanjing and Guiyang in China, Bangalore and Vizag in India, Auckland in New Zealand, Bangkok (2) in Thailand and Hoi An in Vietnam.

Michael Issenberg, Chairman and Chief Operating Officer for Accor Asia Pacific commented on the continuing expansion of Novotel in the region “The Novotel brand has a long history within the Asia Pacific region and is well regarded by owners and developers for the simplicity of its offer, distinct positioning in the market place and for its recognition with customers. This new room is being well received by potential and existing hotel owners offering a design edge and strong technical support and these factors are destined to provide a boost to the brands expansion in the region.”
