Newly launched Langkawi International Convention Centre targets Australian market at AIME 2016

LICC opened in March 2015 and immediately hosted the 26th ASEAN Summit in April. Since then, the venue has gone on to host a number of other high profile events – in the process, showcasing Langkawi’s fabled history and natural wonders to an international audience.

A team from the Langkawi International Convention Centre (LICC) attended Asia-Pacific Incentives & Meeting Expo (AIME) for the first time, as they introduce the latest world-class addition to Malaysia’s business events offering to the Australian market.

LICC opened in March 2015 and immediately hosted the 26th ASEAN Summit in April. Since then, the venue has gone on to host a number of other high profile events – in the process, showcasing Langkawi’s fabled history and natural wonders to an international audience.

Michael Schlueter, the Managing Director of the Langkawi International Convention Centre (LICC), said, “We are delighted that some of our senior team will be attending AIME this year to introduce LICC to the Australian market along with our Malaysia Convention and Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB) colleagues. Langkawi is THE high-end tourism destination in Malaysia and this was one of the key reasons we developed LICC, providing Langkawi with a business tourism destination and facility of international standard, broadening the attractiveness of the island.

Langkawi is a perfect destination for business events originating from Australia. It is easily accessible and offers an interesting alternative for event planners looking for something a bit more luxurious and different. With the opening of LICC event planners finally have a world class facility to rely upon on the island and we are sure that our offer will be attractive for anyone organising a unique event.

LICC is a purpose built, state-of-the-art facility and its appeal as a destination for high-end business events in Langkawi is enhanced by its strategic location – close to the island’s shopping and commercial centre and by its proximity to the neighbouring The Westin Langkawi and the soon to be opened The St. Regis Langkawi – offering potential visitors some fantastic accommodation options.

Inspired by the Malay songket design to reflect the local heritage and culture, the 5,685 sq metre centre offers conferencing, meeting and banqueting facilities in a lush tropical rainforest setting, overlooking the island’s famed white sandy beaches and the Straits of Malacca.

Some of the special features include high end audio visual facilities such as Bose sound systems in all rooms, high ceilings measured at nine meters with mounted chandeliers providing an ornate ambience, a 93 sq metres VIP Suite, VIP holding room, lots of natural day light at the foyer areas and all function rooms being pillar-less.” said Mr Schlueter.

He added that the Grand Ballroom with a capacity of 1,000 persons at 1,660 sq metres, can be divided into three rooms. There are seven additional meeting rooms ranging from 21 sq metres to 1,660 sq metres, making it an ideal venue for International conferences, product launches, fashion shows and other niche functions.

He concluded, “Langkawi has so much to offer as a luxury destination and we believe that the presence of our state-of-the-art facility, along with our growing reputation for successfully hosting significant and prestigious events, will increasingly tempt organisers in the business meetings and conventions industry to look to Langkawi to host their events. We are looking forward to a successful AIME and welcoming more events of Australian origin in the near future.”
