Four new member facilities from three different countries have further diversified the membership of AIPC, the International Association of Congress Centres. The total membership of the global organization is 130 congress and convention centres representing 47 countries around the world.

The effectiveness of an international organization like AIPC is greatly enhanced by a broad and diverse membership that truly represents the breadth of global activity in its field, says AIPC President Barbara Maple. Through such membership, we can access the full spectrum of experience and expertise in our industry and lay claim to truly representing the wide diversity of industry opinions and perspectives world-wide. This is of increasing importance as we deal with new challenges and complexities in our own facilities and even more critical at a time when we`re working to create a stronger position for our industry in the overall world economy.

The new members are:

  • Telus Convention Centre in Calgary, Canada
  • The Royal College of Physicians, Regent`s Park – London
  • Manchester International Convention Centre
  • Lido di Venezia-Eventi & Congressi Spa – Venice

The newest members of the AIPC family reflected on their reasons for joining AIPC and the benefits they feel their membership will provide.

We believe that AIPC membership will give us the insights we need in terms of how our operation fits into the global facility picture, says Marcia Lyons, General Manager of the Telus Convention Centre in Calgary, Canada. This will be of great benefit to us as we increasingly look to broader markets and need to know how best to address the expectations of clients from other parts of the world.

Said Clive Ostler, General Manager of the Royal College of Physicians Regent Park The Royal College of Physicians is the body responsible for postgraduate education and training of physicians, and its headquarters building is also the premier UK venue for international medical conferences. By sharing the knowledge and expertise of other AIPC members, we hope to reach ever higher standards in meeting the expectations of delegates and organizers in the medical or non medical world.

Heather Bell, Deputy General Manager of Manchester International Convention Centre agreed with her colleagues. A great benefit of joining AIPC is that it gives us unique opportunities of learning global best practice methods which we will be able to pass on to our clients. In addition, it helps us ensure that future employees of the conference industry keep these essential high standards as a basis for continuing growth, she said.
